Hello world!

My name is Ann-Marie and, among many other things, I’m really enjoy knitting.

This year I’m taking myself on a knitting adventure! On this blog, I’ll be sharing my adventures in playing with colours and knitwear design.

To try new things, to make new blog-friends, and to break my routines of simply following patterns, rather than try to understand knitting techniques and of buying yarn that simply languishes in my stash, I’ve created a challenge for myself.

Opening doors: the challenge

Each month, based on a picture of a door, I’m going to:

• Design a knitting pattern that incorporates the colours and/or patterns and textures of the picture
• Knit it using yarn that is already in my stash
• Blog about my progress
• And finally, publish the pattern on ravelry.

I’m hoping that through this challenge, I’m going to deeping my understanding of knitting techniques, and perhaps try a few new ones, play more with colour combinations, particularly those that I wouldn’t normally use, use more of the beautiful hand-dyed yarn I keep buying, and have fun along the way.

Why pink geraniums?

Well, geraniums were the first flowers I grew in my windowbox at university, and watching the plants grow and the flowers bloom made me happy. I feel geraniums are such fun plants too, with their curvy, curly leaves, many flowers and the many, many colours and varieties they come in. Plus they’re down-to-earth and easy to grow, while still being so pretty, and I’d like my designs to reflect all of these aspects.
